I bought a Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker upon hearing a favorable review about it on a blog. One of the product features that caught my eye was that it could heat quickly and save energy. This has something to do with how the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker is built: it’s got a solid aluminum base that absorbs heat quicker and lets you cook food in about half of the time than when you use a conventional cooker. One of the things I also like about the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker is that it’s quite safe to use. I used to be intimidated with pressure cookers because there seemed to be so many things that you should be aware of. And we’ve all heard horror stories about pressure cookers just suddenly bursting or the lid exploding because you’ve done something you shouldn’t have and let the pressure build too much. Well, I got sold to the idea that the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker had an automatic locking system that prevents its lid from flying off under pressure and keeps it tightly closed. It’s easy to use the first time because you can easily see how much pressure the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker is under by looking at the red line indicators in its pressure valve. There are also other safety systems in the cooker that help me keep my peace of mind.
It was a strange experience at first using the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker because I got so used to hearing pressure cookers hissing while I was younger. Whenever it was being used, I swear I could hear the steam whistling all the way across the house. The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker cooks so quietly that I wasn’t used to it; I thought we were doing something wrong at first. I guess technology has caught up and loud pressure cookers are now a thing of the past.
We use the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker to cook meat a lot, and there’s even a pan for when you want to do your typical fried dishes. We pressure cook tougher cuts of beef easily with it. What used to take a couple of hours on another cooker, now just takes about 45 minutes on the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker. If I have time I usually just slow cook meat at low temperatures to preserve the flavor better, but fast-cooking these dishes on the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker surprisingly does not result in a lot of flavor loss. The tougher cuts like joints or knuckles become tender quickly without losing too much of their taste. It’s also great when you tenderize meat and you don’t get that pale, unappetizing slab afterwards. Both color and flavor seems to be retained more. My own personal favorite dish – beef tongue – is a treat to make.
The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker is easy to clean and maintain as well. After a couple of months, I’ve had a bit of difficulty with the lid sticking because the cooker has a lid that needs to be turned until its handle is aligned with the pan handle to lock it in. But I found out that you just need to coat a bit of cooking oil to the rubber gasket to make it slide easier. It’s safe to use a dishwasher to clean the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker, but you may not want to include the gasket or the protection cap and clean them instead with a damp cloth. Avoid using stronger cleaning agents as well as Duromatics have a non-stick base.
For all you novice chefs out there who want to use the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top 5-Quart Pressure Cooker, you’ll be glad to know that it also comes with a cookbook called “The Quick Cuisine Cookbook”. This was a very welcome add-on as it lays out all the pressure charts and cook times and made using it so much easier as well.
